I opened a Mother's Day card from my daughter as I crossed the Post Office parking lot on my way home from work this afternoon -- yes, late and with postage due. The thickness of the envelope hinted at a surprise inside (which is why the postal carrier would not deliver it without extra postage...who would have guessed?). Yep -- a sweet gift card was tucked inside, and I will enjoy spending it. But the treasure was the perfectness of the picture on it and the sentiment that it conveyed. At last! My 24 year old actress/writer/singer/dancer recognized my "very glamorous, sometimes goofy, always glorious" qualities. She's enlarging on the glamor, but I totally own the goofy and could be convinced that she finds me glorious. I surely would agree that glorious aptly describes motherhood on most days.
She captured our relationship perfectly with her selection. The style of dress and shoes in the picture more resemble my own mother and me than the two of us, but the zany exuberance and camaraderie are totally us. These days, however, she leads, and I try desperately to keep up! Thank you, Anna!
lovely....
